Geotechnical Investigation – Proposed Wetland Development, South-East Melbourne Council

This new wetland (total pondage area: 14,000 m2) was to be formed from a new 100 m long earth embankment, with an approximate height of 2 m. The embankment was to incorporate an overflow spillway and a series of flow through culverts. Site geology consists of alluvium over tertiary basalt.

The geotechnical investigation involved the use of a 12 t excavator to place investigate test-pits, coupled with laboratory materials testing.

Report recommendations included slope stability calculations for rapid wetland drawdown and spillway rip-rap design.
